| April 6th, 2002 - Another official training climb today! We did Mount Si! I love this hike . . . it's 4 miles up with about 3500 feet of elevation gain. I took about 8 pounds out of my pack this time, so I was only carrying 25 or so pounds, but this hike actually felt MUCH better than any other hike I've done so far. The hike started relatively on time. I think we left the parking lot around 10 after nine. It was just starting to drizzle a little bit, so I threw on my rain parka. By the first stop, I was WAY too hot, so off came the rain parka. We stopped again, just short of the 2 mile mark in "the flats". I felt pretty good that I wasn't the last one to the top, and I actually kept up with Karen and Doug on the way down . . . so I think I'm finally getting in shape. Once we hit the three mile mark though, we were in the snow and ice and of COURSE I forgot my new instep crampons. You can bet I'll have them on our next trip up Si in a couple weeks. The last mile was a pain in my Hurlbut, but fortunately I stayed off it. I did have a blast this weekend though, and even posted some more pictures on my pictures page if you want to check them out. OH, and for once I actually planned on hanging out with the group at the North Bend Bar and Grill for Jambalaya! AWESOME! Really cool getting to have some time to talk with and get to know everyone a little bit better. Thanks again everyone! See you in a couple weeks! April 20th, 2002 - Once again we do Mount Si. I still love this hike, but it's getting a little monotonous. There was snow and ice again past 3 miles, but fortunately I remembered my instep crampons this time! MUCH more pleasant coming down! I can't wait until next month when we start training on Rainier. We're getting close!!! |
