John's Home Theater Project

When I say it's a work in progress, I simply mean that there is always some new geeky gadget I want for my home theater. I really love everything I've put together so far, and in my humble opinion, it sounds tremendous! I'm sure a true audiophile would pick it apart, but it works for me!

The Components:

Receiver: Sony STRDE-985 Dolby Digital/DTX Receiver
DVD Player: Sony DVPCX-860 300 disc DVD Changer
DVR: Philips TiVo DSR-708r with DirecTv tuner
Satellite Receiver: Samsung SIR-TS160 HDTV DirecTv Satellite Receiver
CD Player: Sony CDPC-715 5 Disc Changer (Really old!)
Amplifier: Niles Audio SI-275 2 Channel Amplifier for Whole House Audio
Component Video Switch: Zektor HDS4
Gaming Console: Microsoft X-Box
Media Server: D-Link DSM-320
TV: Mitsubishi WT-46805 HDTV Ready 46" Widescreen TV

The Speakers:

Front Main: Klipsch Synergy Series KSF 10.5
Center Channel: Klipsch Synergy Series KV-3
Rear Surround: Klipsch Synergy Series KSF-S5
Subwoofer: Klipsch Synergy Series KSW-200

The Remote:

Philips Pronto TS-1000 (Hope to upgrade to a TSU-7000 this year)

The Connections:

Either MosterCable or Audioquest where it counts.

The Cabinet:

Hooker Furniture Fireside Cherry Series Bigscreen cabinet, towers and light bridge

Lighting Controls:

X-10 - Various pieces

I love coming home, opening up the cabinet and putting on a good movie or watching something my TiVo recorded for me. The nice thing is that with the Pronto remote, I don't have to fumble around with 15 different remotes. I have it all programmed for one touch on and off of components. Makes it easy for Teri to operate as well. Now that I have my whole house audio system hooked up (see the Home Network section on my Projects page) I can listen to my favorite music anywhere in the house, and the addtion of the D-Link media server means that I can stream any of my thousands of MP3's from my PC at home. I really don't even need the CD player anymore since my entire CD collection is right at the tips of my fingers. Check out the pictures below for more information.
