| Trip to London, England, November 1999
Welcome to page 4 of my London Pictures!! Do you have anything else to do??!!
St. Paul's Cathedral. An AMAZING building. Again, I wish pictures were allowed inside. Do you remember the panorama picture from the previous page . . those were taken from atop the dome of this building. Something interesting about the dome. While you are inside just at the bottom of the dome, there is a narrow walkway all the way around, and this area is called the whispering gallery. You can just barely whisper something on one side, and you can hear it plain as day on the other side. VERY cool. We were following a kindergarten class through St. Paul's. It's so cute to hear the little english boys and girls with their little squeaky english accents . . .
Teri in front of St. Paul's.
[Left] I saw this building while Teri and I were walking from St. Paul's to the Tower of London. It just struck me as cool. There are so many different types of architecture in this place . . . it's amazing.
This is a monument in the city of London . . . pretty much everything you've seen so far has been from the city of Westminster. The city of London proper is only about a square mile. This monument was erected after the fire of 1666 and was simply called "The Monument" since there were no other monuments at the time.
The classic london cab. Some of the friendliest people we met in London were the cab drivers. They have to take a 4 year course to be able to drive in London, similar to a college degree here in the states. Very cool. If you go, tip them well, they'll be your best tour guides.
The Hung drawn and quartered pub. Just down from tower hill where people were . . . well . . . hung drawn and quartered. The plaque on the wall says something like "Today I went to see colonel so and so who had been hung, drawn, and quartered and he looked about as happy as any man could in that condition". After you had been hung drawn and quartered, your head was removed, put on a pole, paraded around London, and stuck in the ground near the river Themes until the pole rotted and your head fell into the river. Took years. Sick people . . .
