What a Weekend! (Long Post)
WOW! What an amazing weekend!Friday April 21st, 2006 - Spike and The Impalers Erupt at the Emerald Queen!
So Friday morning I got up and went out to the house. We were having 50 yards of dirt delivered to the back yard. The builder was kind enough to allow us access to the back before we move in so we won't have to wheel barrow 50 yards from the driveway to the back yard. While I was there (about 2 hours) I got to watch a lot of the millwork going in. The house is REALLY coming together. All the doors are hung inside and most of the millwork is up. The rest should be up today or at the latest tomorrow. After doing some work at the office, I headed home to do some yardwork and some laundry. After Teri got home, we got cleaned up and met Kim for dinner at TGI Friday's in Tacoma. I had a couple of ultimate Lynchburg Lemonades and the three of us headed down to the Emerald Queen Casino to see Spike and the Impalers play their first "real" concert. IT WAS AMAZING! Honestly I thought they were going to be OK . . . but they were AWESOME! Spike's ability to sing a variety of lead vocals really made the show entertaining. They have an amazing band too. Two standouts on guitar are Ian Crawford who I think is somewhere around 18 years old. He played Eruption by Van Halen nearly flawlessly. Look for this kid to do some amazing things in the future. And then there was Dudley Taft, formerly of Sweetwater. Awesome guitarist. We were in the front row and he kept playing up to Kim and Teri during the show. He even tossed Kim a pick. The only "weak" song of the lot was Born in the USA . . . I think they need some work on that one. But other than that, they played classics from AC/DC, Van Halen, Alice in Chains, Led Zepplin and a host of others. Little Kaci provided some awesome female vocals and downtown Joe was fabulous on the Cowbell. Bob held his own on the keyboards, but it was definitely Spike's show. Nice job guys! Can't wait until the next one.
Saturday April 22nd, 2006 - John goes to the gym on a Saturday
You read correctly, I got up Saturday morning and headed into the gym. My workout results are posted in my exercise log. The Y was packed, but I really wanted to get my 3 workouts in for the week. I saw one of the most amazing feats of strength ever and I'm making it a personal goal. This guy took two medium sized medicine balls, placed them on the floor in front of a hand rail that was probably 40" or so high. He then proceeded to put one hand palm down on each medicine ball and put his feet up on the railing. So if you can picutre this guy balancing on two medicine balls with his feet up in the air behind him at about a 45 degreee angle. He then proceeds to do pushups on the medicine balls. It was amazing! After the workout, I jammed to the office to send a couple of e-mails really quickly and then dashed home for a shower. Then Teri and I were off to Emerald Downs. Our friend Kim had purchased 10% of a race horse and it was his first race of the season. We got to meet the trainer and go to the stalls and pet the horses. I love horses by the way. Just wish I could have fed them some carrots. Kim's horse was racing in the 3rd race and after the 2nd, we headed down to the Paddock to watch the jockey's mount the horses and take them out onto the track. It was a really neat insiders view to the world of horse racing. Unfortunately the horse, Ringo Farr, came in 6th out of 8 in the 3rd. He was predicted to come in 8th based on the odds (21:1) so I think it was a fair showing for his first race of the season.
After the races, Teri and I stopped by the Puyallup spring fair. It's way smaller than the real fair, but it was good to get out and walk around in the sun for awhile. We stopped and picked up a Papa John's pizza on the way home and did some TiVo watching. I crashed around 9:30 that night . . .
Sunday April 23rd, 2006 - Hot Tub a comin'!
Sunday I got up and met with a buyer in Yelm. We looked at 4 homes in Yelm and one in Lacey and I think he may actually be interested in purchasing a home in Pennington. We'll see when his fiance gets here next week. Teri and I were supposed to pack on Sunday, but when I got home it was 68 degrees out and sunny. So I conned Teri into heading out for a drive. The plan was to go down to the waterfront and walk for awhile. On the way down, we stopped at Rich's hot tubs and ended up ordering our new hot tub for the new home. It's basically exactly like our current tub, but with more fancy whiz bang features, more jets, and of course 7 years newer. It should be ready about the time we're moving into the new home. So it'll be cool to get the tub set up and ready to go for those days after we put in the yard! Next we headed to Jared's so Teri could get a ring resized that she had bought at an auction. Then we finally headed down to the waterfront. There were a TON of people down there, so we didn't get out and walk. Parking would have been a nightmare. We ended up at Point Defiance and we drove through checking out all the sights. We stopped and took some pictures of the new Narrows bridge under construction. Next we headed to the mall to kill an hour. Then we met Teri's dad and his wife for dinner at TGI Friday's . . . I'm noticing a theme here . . .
It was a GREAT weekend! Relaxing, fun times had by all me thinks!
